Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is a common disorder which can cause a great deal of stress and unhappiness. One method that has proven to be effective at treating excessive sweating is through anti wrinkle injections. Anti wrinkle treatments work by blocking the release of certain chemicals that cause muscle contractions, and they also block the contractions and stimulation of the sweat glands. In persons with axillary hyperhidrosis, the blockage of the overactive sweat glands produces a cessation of excessive perspiration. Anti wrinkle treatments usually take a couple of days to start working, but once they do the sweating is dramatically reduced. Typically injections for axillary hyperhidrosis occur every 6 to 8 months. The injections are given directly into the underarm area.
